I recall seeing the latter setup in person for the first time with George and Johnny switching drum duties. It was really a cool configuration, and it allowed for both musicians sounds on both instruments to come through uniquely and in a harmonic kind of flux. For me, it was like I saw a light bulb that had been lit above the band's heads!

Another couple of things I saw live in real time were 1) that transition away from sampling as much as well as synth-like keys parts and 2) a trend toward a more acoustic sound with more full-sounding, natural keys. It popped open a whole part of the mix that could have sometimes gotten dominated by portions of the sound, something I don't really know much about personally.

I felt like it also guided the songwriting lyrically-one of the things that makes Future Crib so special to me-to a place of embracing and challenging in simultaneity. The songs got more personal and more intimate; it crafted a soft light cast upon good people and great artists. Really, this represented not just an evolution, but a widening of my favorite band.

To learn about the ways y'all executed this practically opens my eyes; of course y'all care about the sound people! You're the best!!
