Sleepy Johnny
We recorded the bulk of the album over the course of a week, really 5 days, and barely got any sleep. The first time I napped all week was on the last night at 2AM, falling asleep on the couch while the others were still working. I started to have intense nightmares and woke up in a sweat, but when I pulled my head up I heard a most-beautiful sound. George was tracking the lead acoustic guitars for “Leaves” in the bathroom, and I could hear him through the monitors. Pretty soon after that the sun came up. It sounds a little mystical maybe, but I will never forget that. It made everything ok, I still can’t really remember what the dream was about, nor do I still have that Santa sweater.
Sleepy Noah
Since we only gave ourselves the week to track the record, most of the work days went well into the night. I can hear when I listen which songs we recorded during the day and which ones were at 3 AM. I remember recording “Cherry” during one of those late nights, and Noah was so tired. I think on the take we ended up keeping, Noah had been asleep sitting at the drums - When the drums come in he must’ve just been waking up. “Whatstheuseinwaiting” was another late night song. Noah sang and played stylophone on the couch - we had to wake him up before every take to make sure he still wanted to keep going. He never stayed awake but didn’t stay asleep either.
Noah no longer plays with Future Crib, but we cherish these memories together and always will. Go listen to his wonderful new music! And Happy holidays from your friends at FC LLC.
