Earlier this month saw the second single from Impossible Songs, “Neighbors.” This song, like “Crush,” saw different iterations and approaches over the years that we’ve been performing it.
This is the first Future Crib song to feature member George Rezek on lead vocals. It’s a truthful tune about finding one’s place in the world, and while we were finding its place in our band, it took on a few different shapes.
The song originally had no outro. George brought the idea for an extended jam to the table, which opened us up to more improvisation in our live set, an opportunity we relished at the time.
Eventually we may have jammed it out a little too much, with some nights seeing 10-15 minute versions of “Neighbors,” one of which can be found on our Bandcamp page.

We began recording the song at the same time as “Crush,” so there are some similar sounding versions of both those tunes. We’ve included the demo and outtakes below. The most unique version of “Neighbors” features Bryce and George on acoustic guitars throughout, with the noise reduction on our Tascam MS16 in “encode only,” giving it a huge tape-y sound. Alberto Sewald, the tracking engineer at the time, said “You know there’s a world out there where this is the final version of the song.”

Thanks for visiting! Talk to ya later
I remember seeing you guys play "Neighbors" live at Catbird Studios in Jackson! That long jam made the song absolutely captivating! Love it. This "encode only" mix is gorgeous!
